πŸ“‘ IoT Remote Monitoring

Remote monitoring of industrial
equipment from anywhere

Know in real time what is happening with your equipment β€” even if you are 500 km away. Temperature, vibration, level, energy and operating status with automatic alerts to your phone.

When is remote monitoring critical?

There are industrial facilities where sending a technician to check on a piece of equipment can mean hours of travel, high transport costs and β€” in the worst case β€” arriving to find a problem that has gone undetected for days. This is especially true in Chile, where many facilities are in remote regions.

Remote monitoring architecture

An industrial remote monitoring solution has four layers that work together:

Layer 1 β€” Field sensors

Industrial sensors that measure the variable of interest: temperature, vibration, level, flow, pressure, power consumption. They can be wired (if infrastructure is available) or wireless (LoRaWAN, WiFi, cellular) for remote points.

Layer 2 β€” Communication

Data travels from the sensor to the central system. The technology depends on the context: LoRaWAN for open field with many scattered sensors, a 4G/LTE cellular router for individual remote sites, industrial Ethernet where network infrastructure is available.

Layer 3 β€” Platform and storage

Data arrives at a server (local or cloud) where Node-RED processes it and InfluxDB stores it with complete history. This layer also applies the alert rules.

Layer 4 β€” Visualization and alerts

A Grafana dashboard accessible from any browser or phone, with configurable alerts by email, WhatsApp or SMS when a parameter leaves its normal range.

Smart alert system

The real value of remote monitoring is not just seeing the data β€” it is being notified automatically when something goes wrong, before it becomes an emergency. Configurable alerts include:

WhatsApp alerts: Through Grafana's integration with Telegram or the WhatsApp Business API, critical alerts go straight to the on-duty technician's phone β€” with no need to check the dashboard actively.

Application cases in Chile

DGA water extraction monitoring

Chile's General Water Directorate (DGA) requires continuous monitoring and reporting of water extraction under water rights. We implement monitoring systems with flow meters, cellular or LoRaWAN telemetry and automatic reporting to the DGA system β€” meeting the regulation without staff dedicated exclusively to that task.

Cold chain in food distribution

Cold rooms with continuous temperature monitoring, immediate alerts for doors left open or refrigeration failure, and historical records for the cold chain traceability required by health regulations.

Rural drinking water pumping

APR (Rural Drinking Water) systems with remote pumping stations monitored via LoRaWAN: tank levels, pump status, power consumption and pressure alarms β€” all visible from the APR committee's central office.

How long does it take to implement?

A remote monitoring system for a single site (a pump, a cold room, a remote station) can be operational in 1 to 2 weeks. For distributed installations with multiple measurement points, the typical timeframe is 3 to 6 weeks depending on network coverage and the complexity of the infrastructure.

Do you have equipment that nobody is watching?

We design and implement your complete remote monitoring system β€” sensors, communication, dashboard and alerts β€” as a turnkey project.
